Hat Trick Productions was founded by Jimmy Mulville, Denise O'Donoghue and Rory McGrath in a cramped office in Soho in 1986, the era of Filofaxes and huge mobile phones. Their first commission was 'Chelmsford 1,2,3' for Channel 4. McGrath and Donoghue have since left, the Filofaxes have been replaced by iPads, the mobile phones are thankfully much smaller, and Hat Trick is now based in not so cramped, in fact positively roomy offices in Camden, overlooking the canal and green and leafy Primrose Hill. However one thing hasn't changed about us - our aim was then, and is now, to make television programmes which we ourselves would like to watch.
Hat Trick is one of the UK's most successful independent production companies, our output immediately identified with popular and award-winning programming, light entertainment, comedy, drama and digital media. Our programmes have been nominated for every major award in the industry and the company has won more awards for its comedy and entertainment output than any other producer in the history of British broadcasting, except for the BBC. For more than 25 years we have been working with some of the best writers, producers, performers and crew - not to mention a superb back-up team - who in turn attract the best on-screen talent. Hat Trick remains at the forefront of the creation of new television. Some of the brightest names in British television began their careers and continue to build them under the Hat Trick brand.
